While fluttering their wings, a pigeon releases small fibers which can cause asthma and create problems while breathing. Pigeons are commonly found in India and can easily disrupt the daily lives of people living in cities. They form their nests in high elevated areas like trees, tall buildings, etc. Pigeon breeding occurs throughout the year, especially in March and July, and female pigeons can lay approximately 1 to 2 eggs at one time. New born pigeons usually part ways with their parents after 4 weeks of intensive care and nurturing.
Contact with pigeon droppings may pose a health risk. Three human diseases that are associated with pigeon droppings are:
Histoplasmosis: A disease caused by a fungus, which grows in pigeon droppings. Whilst cleaning the droppings, a person can breathe in some of the fungus that can lead to a severe infection in cases of high exposure.
Cryptococcosis: Another fungal disease associated with pigeon droppings. A major risk factor for infection is a compromised immune system. According to the US Centres for Disease Control (CDC), nearly 85 percent of Cryptococcosis patients are HIV-positive.
Psittacosis: A rare infectious disease that mainly affects parrots and sometimes other birds like pigeons. Once the infected bird droppings are dry and become airborne, people can fall sick through inhalation.
The XThrow Method:
Net Fittings: This will be done at specified areas in the premises to prevent the entry of pigeons By fitting net to windows, balcony area, ducts.
Spike Fittings: This will be done to prevent the pigeons from landing and resting in specified places.
